• Hi all,

I’m trying to figure out how to navigate this issue that I’ve created for myself. I have a business website on Squarespace. I also have registered the domain (.com) and gmail/gsuite (emails) through Squarespace.

I wanted to upgrade my website, so I paid a webdesigner but they created it using WordPress. They’re asking me to sign up on WordPress. I am wondering what the best way to go about this is.

How do I keep my domain, my G-Suite and emails, and also my SEO stuff while using WordPress? Do I have to continue paying for Squarespace?

    Thanks for any help.

  • As far as I know, Squarespace is a modular system where you get all services from a single source. You don’t have that with WordPress.

If you want to use WordPress, you have to look for a host on which you can install the free WordPress.ORG package. This is actually possible with many of them. This host will then also offer you domain hosting. You can also leave emails that are at Gmail unchanged there, you just have to make sure that the necessary settings are saved there again when moving the domain.

I don’t know what you mean by “SEO stuff”, but there are lots of plugins for WordPress that can help you optimise your website for search engines. Ideally, the person who provided you with the WordPress should have already thought of this. Talk to him about it.

As soon as you have moved the domain to your new host and set up the website there, you can cancel Squarespace.

It’s possible you may have been thinking of WordPress.com, which does offer all of that in one as you described.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/difference-between-wordpress-org-and-wordpress-com/

WordPress.com has complete documentation and support contacts at https://wordpress.com/support/
