Hi @nonstopnate,
Thanks for contacting us! As I understand you have replaced the copyrighted images on your server with different images, but the name and URL of the new images is same as the old image. Is this correct?
As requested I have cleared the cache for the two images on our server.
Pleas note if the images for which you do not have the licensing rights are still present on the server and when someone visits the page they are linked to the images will likely get re-cached.
Best.
Thanks Gaurav
Correct, I’ve replaced the images but kept the URL /file path and filename.
The images aren’t present on the server, however when I turn Jetpack image caching back on the images reappear. I might just leave it off and hope that the cached images aren’t somehow loaded manually.
Hi there,
Thank you for the extra information! Because you’ve replaced the images but used the same URLs, I am not sure if the images which are currently displaying are the new ones or the old ones. Could you please confirm if the image in this screenshot is the new one you want to keep, or the old one you need to get rid of: https://d.pr/i/YzvIvm
You also mentioned that you have turned off Jetpack’s CDN, but according to our logs it is still on. Can you please check?
Hi Emily
I’ve turned off CDN for images but left it on for other static files. Happy to turn it off for all, or turn it back on for images temporarily.
The screenshot you’ve linked to is the new correct version that we want to see.
Visiting the CDN image URLs shows the correct images:
https://i0.wp.com/www.foenixprotection.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Shane-Warne.jpg
https://i0.wp.com/www.foenixprotection.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/evalongoria.jpg
However if you visit them with additional parameters they show the old incorrect images:
https://i0.wp.com/www.foenixprotection.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/evalongoria.jpg?fit=1000%2C710&ssl=1
https://i0.wp.com/www.foenixprotection.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Shane-Warne.jpg?fit=1000%2C710&ssl=0
If i turn image CDN back on, and insert the images into a page, the evalongoria one now shows the correct image, however the shane-warne one still shows the incorrect image.
Thanks for looking into this.
Hi @nonstopnate –
Looking at these images, the plain URL without parameters and the URL with parameters are showing the same image. Can you confirm if this is resolved?
This URL is still showing the wrong image:
https://i0.wp.com/www.foenixprotection.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/evalongoria.jpg?fit=1000%2C710&ssl=1
I believe you may be seeing a cached version of the image in your browser. On the CDN’s side, all versions of the image at that URL were flushed, and are now using the same image as the original. See this screenshot for a comparison between the original and the CDN-generated one.
Could you consequently try to flush your browser’s cache, or try in an incognito window or another browser?
Let us know if everything looks good on your end after that!
Hi Jeremy
I’ve cleared the cache and tried in incognito mode in other browsers but still see the image, only with those specific parameters though. I think it should be alright though. I’ll leave the image CDN setting switched off so it should be okay.
I suspect it might be cached with my ISP, as friends with the same ISP are seeing the old image, but others are seeing the new one.
Thanks for your time and help with this.
Nate
