Reporting and tagging posts

Any post can be reported to the moderators using the Report button in the sidebarSidebar A sidebar in WordPress is referred to a widget-ready area used by WordPress themes to display information that is not a part of the main content. It is not always a vertical column on the side. It can be a horizontal rectangle below or above the content area, footer, header, or any where in the theme.. (Note that the “sidebar” on narrow screens is located below the page’s main content.)

When to report a post

A post should be reported when in your opinion a forum moderator needs to take action on a post or thread. This would be when private information such as email addresses, phone numbers, login information or other personal information has been posted. A moderator can then edit the post to remove that information.

You can report spam or other breaches against the forum guidelines in the same way. Only the moderators will see who reported the topic and what note they added with their report.

Using the report button (or manually adding the tag modlook) as a way to get quicker response will not work. Such abuse may actually lead to your account being flagged for moderation, which will slow down your use of the forums.

Tagging

Correctly tagging a post helps in two ways:

  • some forum helpers like to focus on certain issues and will follow a tag feed.
  • people searching for help might first check relevant tags
