Found a bugbug A bug is an error or unexpected result. Performance improvements, code optimization, and are considered enhancements, not defects. After feature freeze, only bugs are dealt with, with regressions (adverse changes from the previous version) being the highest priority.? Create a ticket in the bug tracker.

Following the conversation in CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. chat a few weeks back (Oct. 25, Nov. 1), here are some proposed dates for releases in 2024. These are open to adjustment, but the current dates attempt to account for major holidays and WordPress events.

6.5 – BetaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. 1 on Feb. 13, final release on Mar. 26 (WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Asia Mar. 7-9)
6.6 – Beta 1 on Jun. 4, final release on Jul. 16 (WordCamp Europe Jun. 13-15)
6.7 – Beta 1 on Sep. 24, final release on Nov. 5 (WordCamp US still TBD)

Given that 2024 will hold a bulk of the work for Phase 3, I expect that 6.5 and 6.7 will be focused on those Collaborative features. I would like to propose that 6.6 be held specifically for maintenance and general polish of the software (as was wished for earlier this year).

Any idea what release in 2024 will have the next PHPPHP The web scripting language in which WordPress is primarily architected. WordPress requires PHP 5.6.20 or higher minimum version jump? See #58719.

Not sure how much of that will already be ready in time for 6.5. Maybe swap focuses of 6.5 and 6.6?

There has been discussion in the past about trying to increase the cadence of releases, but it seems like once again the aim is to do 3 in the calendar year. What about trying to aim for 4 instead of 3?

  Less time and more work. That can take a toll on people working on the next releases.
  
  People also have their own private lives, holidays and so forth. While I am celebrating Christmas, others celebrate other holidays of other religions and non-religious holidays.

well, i would personaly vote for increasing the maintenance releases in between major releases.
- I can imagine making 4 major per year is a big challenge, it deals with available staffing.

With an SEO plugin, the excerpt may also be in that plugin’s metabox. issues are several months old but impact every website running the gutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ way.
It is important to make the current features stables of course for early adopters, but also if we want classic theme users to get on board quickly.

Ok to cover more width (through major releases), but don’t forget feature depth (through minor or more frequent gutenberg merge into coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress.) ! Phase 2 is not finished yet IMHO. Small releases are also beautifull and can lead also to speed up things in between 🙂

Quality versus Quantity.

In phpBB they don’t usually have a specific schedule.

The link to the release notes went to a 404 page. If someone forgot to check on that then what else is missing or not checks?

What about some kind of voting for features? Countless time I see the same minory of community members doing all the talk.

As I type this I see 4 other comments.

What about someone from WP/Automattic/etc…have a table at the WordCamps to hear from the people. Obviously not one person for all the WCs. One member of each community that is running a WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more.. Then they all get together with Josepha. In-person or digital (Zoom/Skype/etc…) and talk what their own communities want/need.

Imagine like a Speaker’s Corner booth at WordCamps.

Giving the option of different languages.

As people come in at the WordCamps…there is a table where people can fill in a feedback form?

I can’t remember the last time a WordCamp asked for feedback.

Some event organizers may exhibit sensitivity when individuals do not express admiration or provide constructive criticism. This may be observed in situations where they find it challenging to accept legitimate feedback.

It is the usual suspects on here that comment. Why don’t we have more people commenting?

If 6.6 remains a maintenance and polish release, I’d like to participate as AccessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers).
